Enable me, Sensate!

What Do:
  • Make one separate top-level comment for each character you're considering playing.
  • Fill out the form below for each of them.
  • Due to the nature of the game, characters must be firmly over 18 years old both physically and mentally.
  • Browse other people's pitches, get excited about the prospects, comment to them to shoot the shit, spitball ideas, or just keysmash.

General tips for filling out the form:

Skills / Powers: List what your character can bring to the table to use in the cluster! this can be anything from karate to cooking to emotional vulnerability to a street drug connection.

Flaws: List any flaws you'd like to play around with, to make other characters endure or address.

Themes / Desires: List some general themes you want to explore; these can be as abstract or as specific as you want. for example: father issues, the concept of humanity as a whole and whether or not it's redeemable, self-improvement, learning to read, getting help through a more social or mature sensate cluster member to improve interpersonal relationship dynamics, killing some specific guy, dream-sharing a recurring nightmare, having a memory-share of x/y/z event in a character's past, either first-person or from a safe distance, and so on...

Canonpoints To AU: Any ideas for specific moments in your character's canon that you may want to play out — either to replay with exactly the same outcome, or to drastically change the events of your character's canon, the sky is the limit.

Anything Else?: Include anything noteworthy you think is worth mentioning, or just post a sexy gif to win everyone over.

Character Name: Wrench
Canon: Fargo TV
Starting Canonpoint: I'm toying with a few different options if I go this route, so I'd welcome any input. Possibilities include:
S01E06
Wrench and his partner Numbers have just faced off against rival hitman Lorne Malvo. Numbers is dead, but Wrench doesn't know it yet. He's been hospitalized under police surveillance after being shot in the abdomen by a police officer. I am thinking in this version I would deviate from canon and the cluster would be the ones to help him escape from the hospital. He'd never have the encounter with the rival hitman who clues him into his partner's death, so he'd likely still be desperately searching for Numbers for some time.

S01E08
Another possibility is that I start him following his escape from the hospital, aided by the rival hitman who killed Numbers and obliterated the entire syndicate. Wrench would now know that his lifelong partner and everyone in his syndicate are dead and he's entirely on his own. He'd also be recovering from a gunshot wound and trying to find a safe place to post up, heal, and deal with the annihilation of his entire way of life. Fun times.

S03E10
Here's Wrench skipped ahead five years. He's been captured once and was bound for prison, but managed to escape and is now on the run from the US Marshals. This Wrench is 10 years post-syndicate and he's far more feral. Dude's been largely underground for nearly a decade, subsisting almost entirely on his own. He's probably not had much in the way of a conversation with anyone in the last half-decade, so he's primed to have his world rocked by connection of any kind.

Skills / Powers:
Wrench is, first and foremost, a survivor. He was raised by a mob boss and spent ample time working as a contract killer, which has given him a proficiency with a wide variety of ranged weapons. He's an excellent shot and can wield hatchets, axes, and tomahawks with similar brutality. At the end of his canon he's spent five years evading capture by the US Marshals, subsisting on what he's been able to hunt, forage, and construct with his own hands. Wrench is able to move among people without being noticed and stalk his prey, whether that's human or animal. And he knows how to do all of this without leaving a trace of himself behind. He can police his brass after a firefight and gut big game without wasting the offal. Wrench is also fluent in American Sign Language and English. He's a proficient speech reader (which is admittedly less proficient than most hearing assume), but will make every effort to hide that fact from others. Nevertheless, he's a man with a keen eye, adept at reading even the slightest microexpression. Perhaps most advantageous, he's a man with no concrete identity who is neither known nor missed by society at large.

Also, while Wrench is technically a squishy human, the Fargo canon generously incorporates elements of the supernatural throughout each of its seasons. Additionally, if I take him from S3 canonpoint, Wrench himself has had at least one direct encounter with an immortal being, and was subsequently granted his life back. This experience has been interpreted as a linchpin moment in his characterization, and the point at which he became something of an avenging angel figure. As such (and supported by his grooming from childhood), Wrench is more resilient than average. He requires significantly less sleep than the average person and can subsist on very little food and water — levels that would induce starvation in most. He's also quite a bit more resilient, and can heal from injuries other people would succumb to.

Flaws:
Strong "everyone I have ever loved is dead" vibes around this one. If the canonpoint I pull him from includes his awareness that Numbers is dead, that will come with extreme guilt. Numbers wanted to finish the job and go the hell home, and it was Wrench who insisted on gathering more information. Their pursuit of that ultimately led to Numbers' death. He's also really susceptible to letting himself become the henchman in someone else's plan. Wrench was groomed from a young age to kill at another man's behest, so he's already gone through all the mental gymnastics that allow a person to do that. He's essentially rudderless without a mission and a person controlling and guiding that mission. He's got no clue how to live for himself. Worse yet, he's been trained that needing, wanting, or enjoying things are all weaknesses that other people can use to manipulate you, so he's terminally un-fun.

Themes & Desires:
Please help this man experience emotions. Teach him that it's okay to want and to like things. Wrench is a murderer who has tortured people to elicit confessions and desecrated their corpses to hide their identities. He will likely try to hide this, and be horrified at the first sign that he's not capable of concealing it from his cluster. I'm not big on the idea of a redemption arc because that seems too tidy, but anyone who wants to talk about the complexities of the human condition is A+. He's also Deaf. I haven't completely decided yet how I'd like to handle that in the midst of all this sensating, but I know it's a big thing. I know that I'm not interested in every sensate experience that he has in another person's world inherently coming with their ability to hear transposed onto him, but I'm not averse to playing around with it a few times when the moment is right. Inversely I am very okay with other characters experiencing his deafness when they are sensating in his body.

Canonpoints To AU:
• His partner Numbers' death. They had gotten separated in a whiteout snowstorm and Wrench was shot while Numbers was dying elsewhere.

• His escape from the hospital following this shooting.

• S03 re-introduces Wrench on a prison transport bus, which is subsequently run off the road and boarded by men looking to kill his seatmate. He's chained to said seatmate and they escape into the woods while being stalked and pursued by the henchmen.

• Wrench is mortally wounded as a result of this and the two find their way into a bowling alley intended to serve as a manifestation of purgatory. In the bowling alley he encounters an immortal being who explains that Wrench's life has been spared.

Oh yeah, they sort of toyed around with Malvo as a supernatural force in S1 and then went full-on alien spaceship in S2. It's definitely not a main theme, but there's a strong undercurrent there.

BUT I HAVE TO STRESS THIS IS AN AU. Where slave auction meme got out of hand collared slaves are just A Thing in the world and ya boi been one most of his life and has only relatively recently been "freed" and having lots of feelings with/about/for one Frank Castle. There is no magic in this world, but all of the Weird Science of the mcu still exists--Cap and Tony and Hulk are all still things, for instance, but the Odinsons are just normal humans living under king dad, etc.
you can read the ongoing "canon" here and here
Starting Canonpoint: sometime [handwaggles] moderately generally before or around the first time he gets kidnapped by Fisk's goons for a little reeducation and reprogramming
don't worry that I just said the first time

Skills / Powers:
-he's still a trained assassin with an extremely uncanny shooting ability (that is still perfectly normal)
-if it's a weapon chances are good he knows exactly how to use it
-keen tactical mind, good at planning, good at remembering things like layouts, working solo or in a team
-dog is also a skill. em said so.
Flaws:
-prone to taking orders if someone says them loud or firmly enough/going into a bit of a dissociative state when someone actively treats him as a slave
-~personhood issues~
-flight risk, which is to say, prone to getting the hell out of dodge if he's given the opportunity. unless you're frank telling him to flee to canada. then he's fucking velcro I guess apparently
-snarky lil asshole if he can get away with it
-is unfortunately going to make/has made an enemy of someone with a lot of pull and power even while sitting in prison
-literally wears a collar to denote his slave status that also comes with certain restrictions in public mannerisms and social expectations
Themes & Desires:
-what makes a person a person instead of an object or a weapon
-redeveloping skills regarding wanting things and expressing those wants
-look at all these people who suddenly See him and Know him and Love him??? ;;
-here's this guy I feel very strongly for. please don't freak him out. [proceeds to freak him out]
-exploring other worlds and other ways of being for someone who hasn't tasted freedom in actual decades
-LET HIM KILL PEOPLE FOR YOU, you might not have a choice in the matter sorry
-memory dream nightmare sharing deliciousness yum yum eat it up
Canonpoints To AU:
-said first kidnapping
-theeeee bloody potential aftermath of it
-man's gonna gain his legal freedom at some point and simply not know what the fuck to do with himself, maybe help convince him to go explore or do something specific with his life
-getting back in touch with his family?? finding important people in his life??
-collar advocacy??
-the. the second kidnapping if it comes to that.

polymortem: (013.)

Character Name: Phoenix
Canon: Original
Starting Canonpoint: A couple months after getting sniped on the street and brought to a facility to be experimented on, still in said facility.

Skills / Powers:
✮ Rebirth: Phoenix can die just as easily as a human, but he comes back to life a while later, with the same injuries that killed him (obviously healed enough to be survivable). The amount of time it takes him to come back depends on how healthy and energized he is when he dies. For more picky details, see his bio.
✮ Healing/Resurrecting Others: Technically, Phoenix's tears can heal others, but using that ability is "fiddly" so he rarely uses it. He can bring others back to life if they've been killed, though, and is more likely to simply kill an injured companion and bring them back rather than try to use the healing thing.
✮ Obsession Aura: Simply due to his nature as a supernatural creature, he has a mesmerizing effect on base-level humans that causes them to become fixated on him and want to own him. (I would likely nerf this for in-game interactions, though it plays a big part in his backstory.)
✮ Fire Manipulation: Phoenix can create and manipulate fire, but he hasn't unlocked that ability yet and doesn't know he has it.
Flaws:
✮ Trust Issues: Phoenix has had a rough life and doesn't trust easily. He's essentially given up on finding anyone who loves him for who he really is.
✮ Mercurial & Intense: Phoenix's emotions are very intense and can change very quickly, which is exacerbated by the fact that he has a lot of triggers after a lifetime of abuse. Oftentimes, this means his behaviour can be very unpredictable.
✮ Ego & Self-Esteem: Phoenix uses his inflated and delicate ego to prop up a complete lack of any real kind of self-esteem or confidence in himself.
✮ Impulsive & Self-Destructive: Often, he will get overwhelmed or overstimulated and ends up throwing himself into risky, dangerous, or even deadly situations without thinking, relying on the fact he 'can't die' to get him through.
Themes & Desires:
✮ Trauma Processing: Someone please help him work through the abuse he's dealt with his entire life, and help him believe it wasn't all his fault!
✮ Developing Trust: He's going to be very resistant and in denial to the whole sensate thing because it's hard for him to process that there are now people who he has no choice but to trust because they have access to his brain.
✮ Forming Community: It's going to be difficult for him to adjust to having 'family' of sorts, people who have his back and generally not being alone all the time. Usually he can just act in his own best interests at all times, and he's going to have to navigate putting other people's needs before his own.

Canonpoints To AU:
✮ The 'Lost Years': I'd be open to him having some mental company during the years he barely remembers when he got into a lot of stuff we'd have to content warn for.
✮ Current: He's currently stuck in a shady facility being experimented on. Anyone wanna stage one of those amazing sensate rescue sequences?

Character Name: Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for Building, or "Meebs," for short.
Canon: Original
Starting Canonpoint:
- Following her incarceration.

Standard Canon Info Below!!

Meebs comes from a dystopian canon that follows the events of World War III and fallout from mutually assured destruction decades later.

In the year 3533, much of humanity has moved underground and created a subterranean railway and a network of different cities and civilizations built into the sediment.

Those who aren't considered world leaders or their families are born for a purpose, farmed, and slotted into jobs like worker bees. Meebs, after mandatory schooling, was found to be of most use in the engineering field. A mechanical savant.

Her Cadet Number and badge were stripped from her in the system, and her identity was shifted to Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for Building to designate her purpose to the hive.

Skills / Powers: She's got A Beautiful Mind type brain when it comes to building, rigging, mechanics, and engineering of all types. Basically, if it can be configured, she can take it apart and put it back together. Codes, structures, old vehicles, everything. She's Bob the Builder, but with better features.

Think Happy from Scorpion, Scofield from Prison Break, she sees where all the pieces fit and which pieces to pull to make things topple. She sees the bones of everything; it's just her way.

Flaws:
Self-made artificial leg that she fashioned for herself after an incident following her climb to freedom.

The world was radiation-ravaged, and what life survived it has been poisoned and made monstrous because of it.

Themes & Desires:
— Loner > Alone =/= Healthy Coping Skills
— Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Severe distrust of the government
— Orphan-mode initiated
— Trauma that the body remembers, but she refuses to acknowledge
— Always awake, the bags under her eyes are Gucci
— Girl Boss, Gatekeep, Garchomp
— Obsessed with shit from the 90s : bands, music, (especially boy bands), roller blades, tamagotchis, furbies, sky dancers, she collects 90s shit and even has her computer system stylized 90s
- Kleptomaniac
- Adrenaline Junkie lil crazy srry 2 say but knows when to keep it srs
Canonpoints To AU:
I would have to AU a lot of her story, not sure where to start with that yet but some of its easy tweaking and just fixing it into the necessary timelines and circumstances.

Anything Else?:

Character Name: Chell [Redacted]
Canon: Portal/Portal 2
Starting Canonpoint: Usually I play her post canon, but for this setting I think playing her trapped in the Aperture facility at the outset of the first game would be the way to go, ne?

Skills / Powers:
•STUBBORN: doesn't give up. Ever.
•INTELLIGENT: although she explicitly isn't the smartest of the Aperture test subjects, she's clearly very smart. She can write in binary when she's feeling bitchy. And solving all those test chambers requires a lot of smarts!
•ATHLETIC: flings herself through the air without fear and always lands on her feet. Granted, the Long Fall Boots help, but she's flippy on her own, too! Gotta have good reflexes to avoid all those turrets.
Flaws:
•STUBBORN: if she gets a goal in her mind she may pursue it past the point of rationality or safety.
•CONTRARIAN: related to her stubbornness, Chell is also inclined towards oppositional defiance. "Fuck you, make me" is her family crest, because she's her entire family. I have also never played Portal and not destroyed every security camera I see out of spite, so that's the vibe she's bringing to the function.
•CAPABLE OF REAL DUMB SHIT IF IT'S FUNNY OR NARRATIVELY NEEDED: following instructions from an obviously murderous computer? Sure! Maybe there'll be cake this time!
Themes & Desires:
•ISOLATION/LONELINESS: Chell is the only human being left alive in Aperture. She has no family; I headcanon that her parents died in an accident at Aperture and she went through the foster system, so when GLaDOS makes fun of her for being adopted it's sheer sadism. She's also physically mute (also headcanon), so even though she's hearing, she's spent most of her life pretty socially isolated. Through the course of the games, the only entity that never betrays her is the Companion Cube. I think this would make her connecting to a cluster particularly poignant!! Please let her connect with some people who will not try to incinerate her at any point!!
•DEHUMANIZATION: particularly in the first game, Chell is treated as a test subject. I think she internalizes this role to a certain extent -- like, yeah, the reason she always does the tests instead of trying to get out via alternate means is because the game is on rails, but I think it's interesting to play with the idea that she has trouble with being a person sometimes.
•TOXIC YURI: hi GLaDOS
Canonpoints To AU: admittedly it's been a minute since I canon reviewed but I think the whole of the games would be fun (read: horrifying and absurd) to experience with a cluster. Especially when she gets blown up and put back into stasis for years, and when she gets blown into space for a minute!

Alan Ross / The Last Binding

the_roman: (Default)
From: [personal profile] the_roman

Player Name: Adiva
Contact: [plurk.com profile] AdivaCalandia

Character Name: Alan Ross
Canon: The Last Binding trilogy by Freya Marske
Starting Canonpoint: Probably in between books 2 and 3?
Quick canon rundown: Alan comes from a version of 1909 Britain where magic exists. Magicians are sufficiently integrated into the world to have a bureaucracy that liases with the British government, but the fact of magic's existence is secret from the general population. Some magicians don't like this and form a conspiracy to consolidate power and take over Britain, and fighting this conspiracy is the thrust of the trilogy's narrative.

Also there's a lot of gay sex. Alan Ross is a journalist, socialist, occasional jewel thief, closeted gay man, and secret writer of kinky gay smut under the pen name A Roman. He did not ever intend to get mixed up in a conspiracy against a conspiracy of magicians but here he mcfucking is.

Skills / Powers:
•WALKING ANTI-MAGIC WARD: Alan is a "perturbator," although he doesn't know that say first. Basically, his world's magic doesn't work correctly on him -- sometimes not at all, sometimes strangely.
•LOCKPICKING: like I said, occasional jewel thief.
•FORGERY: Alan is an incredibly gifted forger. Give him a couple hours with a sample of handwriting and he can reproduce it with great accuracy, plus he's canonically forged things like letters of reference. (He thinks at one point about forging a train ticket, so he must have some experience with official documents as well.)
•CODE SWITCHING: Alan is bilingual in Italian and English, and in English can code switch fluently between a lower class Clerkenwell accent and a more educated one. He's a decent mimic, although nothing crazy; he just has a pretty good ear. I will also count the fact that he's able to write convincing Tory op-eds under his editor's byline while being a raging socialist himself under this one.
•PORN: he's a successful pornographer with a particular line in kinky dubcon fantasies titled things like "Exploits of A Cabin Boy" and "In the Dark Duke's Dungeon."

Flaws:
•PRICKLY: Alan can be a sarcastic, defensive little bitch if he gets his hackles up, and it doesn't take too much for him to get his hackles up.
•FAMILY ABOVE ALL: one of those double-edged flaws. His loyalty to his family is a great characteristic, but it also means he'll compromise just about every one of his morals in order to protect and help them. He self-describes as a "sin-eater," someone who takes on sin so that others, specifically his mother, siblings, and their children, won't have to. This leads him to make some Bad Choices, sabotage relationships, that kind of thing.
•KIND OF A BERNIE BRO: that guy who's ready to start talking about burning down the class system at a moment's notice. Insufferable. Jesus Christ. At least he stops short of advocating for an entire revolution, but he does have strongly held opinions about social safety nets and you are going to hear about them. Also, it's not that he's not aware of race and sex as axes of oppression, he just has such a class-first lens on politics that he can need reminders to consider those things as well. It's 1909, he doesn't know what intersectionality is.

Themes & Desires:
•CLASS AND POWER: Alan is constantly, constantly, angry about class inequity. His family has experienced homelessness in the past. His legitimate writing work (advertising, journalism) frequently puts him in contact with the wealthy and the titled, and he has seen them abuse that power. He knows exactly how close he and the people he cares about are to the knife's edge of real poverty at all times, and he is both terrified of this and furious about it.
•PASSING, SECRETS, AND GUILT: being gay is very illegal in Edwardian Britain! Writing and selling pornography is very illegal in Edwardian Britain! Being Italian is not illegal but does open one up to xenophobia/racism in Edwardian Britain! And here's Alanzo Cesare Rossi, passing as a straight white guy who definitely doesn't do crimes. Did I mention he was raised Catholic? He may no longer believe in God, but let me tell you, you never stop feeling Catholic guilt.
•SEXUALITY: Alan is 🌈gay🌈 and a big ol' sub who has spent a lot of time thinking about his sexuality. His writing frequently deals with taboo subjects like sadomasochism, dubious consent, and power. Although his thinking is going to be inevitably colored by the fact that it's 1909 -- e.g., his understanding of non-binary-ness wouldn't be very good, although he has a conception of binary transness; he doesn't know modern BDSM terms like "safe word" --

Canonpoints To AU: There's one Big Thing that happens in between books 2 and 3 that affects a lot of what Alan is doing in book 3 (which includes having ill-advised, extremely hot D/s sex with his eventual love interest). SPOILERS, so I hesitate to go into detail, but I think it would be an extremely interesting moment to write out on screen, particularly if it involved other people who might intervene. There's also a big final confrontation at the end of book 3 that would be fun! It's violent! Hooray!

Anything Else?: gotta love a man who canonically gets put in a maid outfit for plot reasons
